Educational Performances

Dear Teachers,

The First Coast Nutcracker Ballet and the Jacksonville Symphony offer a wonderful experience for young people to enjoy classical music and dance. This year, these fully-staged educational performances are offered in the Moran Theater at the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts on December 15 and 16. You may choose to attend Act I (party scene, battle scene, and snow scene), Act II (angels, waltz of the flowers, Marzipan, Russian, Chinese, Arabian, bon-bons etc.) or both.

The students are often pleased that they recognize some of Tchaikovsky’s stirring music played live by the Symphony from the orchestra pit.  In addition, the beautiful scenery, intricate costumes, and lively dance steps are key ingredients in keeping their attention.  I find it very heartwarming to stand backstage and hear the children cheering and applauding for classical music and ballet.

We strive to make our production artistically excellent and a meaningful experience for the young dancers who participate, as well as for all those who attend.  An educational guide will be available for each of your students to learn more about the composer, choreographer, symphony orchestras and how these elements come together to create this particular art form.

I know your students will enjoy this special holiday tradition and they will learn a lot as well.  Please consider arranging this field trip for your class or the entire school and we will do everything possible to make it a rewarding experience.  The dancers will be practicing very hard for the next three months and are eager to perform with our two world-acclaimed guest artists and the Jacksonville Symphony especially for you and your class.

Please return the enclosed form as soon as possible and we will be happy to make a reservation. On behalf of the orchestra members, cast and production crew, we look forward to seeing you in December.

Sincerely yours,
Linda Holmes
